Switch from ezyVet to Lupa

Thinking about moving from ezyVet? You're not alone.

Here are a few reasons why vets and their teams decide to switch to Lupa (and why you might, too).  Let's dive into the details…

The context

The ezyVet story

ezyVet has been around for over 20 years. For most of that time, it set the standard for what a cloud-based veterinary PIMS could do.

But in 2021, IDEXX Laboratories acquired it.

Since then, the picture has changed. Reviews that once praised fast, responsive support now describe long hold times and call center agents with limited knowledge. A product that once felt like it was being actively developed now attracts complaints about features that have not changed in years. And teams that switched from older, simpler systems often find themselves wondering why a task that used to take two clicks now takes seven.

None of that means ezyVet is a bad product. It means it is a product built for a different moment, and that moment has passed.

The reviews

What teams say about ezyVet

1

Feature development has halted

Practices that chose ezyVet for its forward momentum have noticed a shift. Reviewers describe a product that feels static, with longstanding gaps that go unfixed and a roadmap that no longer reflects the pace of modern veterinary software.

A verified Capterra reviewer noted that ezyVet is "very restrictive on who they will actually integrate with," while another described the reporting functionality as leaving "a lot to be desired."[5]

The IDEXX acquisition gave ezyVet stability. It did not give it urgency.

✦ With LupaLupa ships updates every week. Faster than any other PIMS.

We build AI natively into workflows to remove the admin burden from your team.

Lupa is the choice for modern teams wanting to leverage technology to it's fullest.
2

It's hard to use

This is the most consistent complaint across every review platform.

"There are too many steps to complete a task... not very user friendly. Too many options for a single task," wrote one verified Veterinary Trauma Technician on G2.[1]
Even IDEXX's own comparative material concedes that "navigation can be awkward at times, with some users reporting... too many clicks."[2]

For a team seeing 30 patients a day, that friction adds up.

✦ With LupaLupa is built to be easy to use. That means expect tasks to take one click, instead of seven.

And with AI built into workflows, we're taking the admin burden away from your team.

Training new team members takes 2-3 hours.

Support has declined since the IDEXX acquisition

Before 2021, ezyVet's support was one of its most praised features. That changed.

"Over the last year, support has declined... I've requested a call back and never gotten one. There are also times where I decide to wait, and then I get hung up on after being on hold for over an hour," wrote one Director of System Integrations on Capterra.[3]
A GetApp analysis of 61 verified reviews collected between 2021 and 2024 found persistent reports of slowness, bugs and unresolved issues across the platform.[4]
✦ With LupaLupa support is ready to help you solve issues in the moment.

We know how frustrating it is to be hit with walls of phone automations, or chat bots taking you round in circles.

At Lupa, you have the option of using our AI support, or speak to a human in less than 3 minutes.

Integrations are restrictive

Practices that want to connect third-party tools often hit a wall. ezyVet controls which integrations are permitted, and the list is limited.

"ezyVet, as a whole, is stingy with who they will integrate with. It is difficult to find appropriate integrations that will work for us," wrote one Practice Manager on G2.[6]
A separate Capterra reviewer went further: "They are very restrictive on who they will actually integrate with — they hold your database hostage."[7]

For practices with specialist suppliers, custom reporting, or existing tools they rely on, this is a real constraint.

✦ With LupaLupa is built as an open platform. Third parties can build on top of Lupa's core, and if you want to pull practice data into another system, the API lets you build the connection yourself. It is fully documented and publicly available.
